For this show, Derman is presenting a series of works of gouache and acrylic on paper as well as an installation of found materials.

The artist’s work explores residual images that accumulate from everyday life. She often uses left-over, faded associations, fragmented memories and imagined narratives for works which shift between the clear and unreadable; the real and the constructed; the concrete and the abstract.

Her paintings can be read as fragments of an elusive and on-going narrative.

Sonya currently lives in London, where she is pursuing an MA at the Royal College of Art. Alongside painting and drawing, she is also interested in collaborative projects, writing, and artist books

    LomoLocations: Reno, Nevada

In prime areas of New York and San Francisco, the phrase ‘rush hour’ is always on the menu. Drive up to Reno, and the same expression fizzles. Many roads are framed by mountains and shrubbery, a picture of calm in the city. But the night makes up for the day’s stilly mood. Casinos flaunt LED signs and marquees, a treat for urban photographers.

Klara Johanna Michel's Ethereal Visions as Captured by the Lomo'Instant Wide

Influenced by the work of Caravaggio, Berlin-based photographer Klara Johanna Michel hand-painted photographs are reminiscent of Renaissance art. The images are highly stylized and the subjects are posed to mimic the appearance of religious beings. Who would have thought that such mystery and old world charm could similarly be achieved with the help of an instant camera?

A Salute to the Masters: Paestum (A Tribute to Serge Moulinier)

This article is dedicated to Serge Moulinier, a largely unknown French photographer who won one of the most important prizes in France with a book on Greek architecture. Strangely, little information can be found on the Internet about this great photographer whose work had also been published in an important essay written by the famous John Szarkowski, former Director of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Remarkable Film Photographs Captured by the Homeless Featured on Cafe Art 2016 My London Calendar

Armed with disposable cameras, a number of people affected by homelessness in London trooped out in the streets and captured life from their individual perspectives. That was in July; now, 13 photographs have been selected via public vote and will be featured on the upcoming calendar by Cafe Art, an initiative that "[showcases] artwork created by people affected by homelessness or are socially vulnerable."

Happenings on Film: Graffiti Contest for Expo 2015

On the last Saturday of July, the old district of Borgo Vico hosted an art and music festival. There was also a graffiti contest, and the winner will exhibit his work at the Como Business Center for Expo 2015. I used my Zorki 4 loaded with an Ilford FP4+ film to document the event. I focused on the young artists who, amid the swirl of activity, had to concentrate on their large-scale pieces.

Geoffrey Berliner On Photographic Processes, Old and New

Geoffrey Berliner is the Executive Director of the Penumbra Foundation and the Center for Alternative Photography in New York. As the head of an organization whose goals are 'to be a comprehensive resource for photographers at any level' and 'to continue to publicize the impact photography has had and continues to have on culture, history and the arts,' his exposure to photographic materials -from 19th century gems to modern equipment- is so extensive, one cannot even begin to fathom just how much knowledge and experience this man has acquired. His collection of over 2000 vintage Petzval lenses is unparalleled, and the object of envy of both traditional and contemporary photographers. Although such lenses are reputed to require a certain level of skill to be used, Berliner seems to manage them with so much ease, producing splendid results.
