'Remainders', an exhibition of new paintings by Sonya Derman is being hosted by Park Life, San Francisco until February 19th 2012.
For this show, Derman is presenting a series of works of gouache and acrylic on paper as well as an installation of found materials.
The artist’s work explores residual images that accumulate from everyday life. She often uses left-over, faded associations, fragmented memories and imagined narratives for works which shift between the clear and unreadable; the real and the constructed; the concrete and the abstract.
Her paintings can be read as fragments of an elusive and on-going narrative.
Sonya currently lives in London, where she is pursuing an MA at the Royal College of Art. Alongside painting and drawing, she is also interested in collaborative projects, writing, and artist books
