My Most Memorable Travel Escapade of 2011

11

Probably most of us who will be making an article of our most memorable travel escapades will be writing about our summer vacations. Why not, it’s the most fun and stress-free season in my book. Just by the sight of the sun rising or setting on the beach, makes all the long travels worthwhile.

Summer in the Philippines is during March up to late May. During these months, Manila could get very hot and humid. So most of us will either spend our weekends inside the malls or plan a quick getaway to the many beaches that surround the Philippines. One of the nearest beaches to visit is in the province of Batangas. It’s a 2-3 hour drive from Manila, quite a long drive but the mere sight of the sun and beach relieves the weariness away. So one weekend last summer, my wife and I decided to spend a weekend in one of the resorts in San Juan, Batangas.

This weekend beach getaway was extra special because it’s our daughter’s first beach experience. She was 3 years old that time and we still haven’t brought her to the beach. We were all excited especially my son, who always talk to his sister about one day playing with her at the beach.

It was truly a fun weekend, seeing my kids having a blast swimming and playing in the beach, me and my wife just enjoying the sights and sounds of it makes this trip a whole lot memorable. So if there’s one trip I’m looking forward to this year, that would be another weekend in San Juan, Batangas.

The World, According to Herr Willie: The Amazon

It was the Amazon which I had longed for my whole life. And when it was finally a set deal that I will travel to Brazil with two of my best friends for the Copa do Mundo (World Cup), we really had to start our adventure in the Amazon. I had known about this magical place deep in the rainforest. There was a lodge run by local people of indigenous background, with wooden houses that float on the water and a limited number of visitors. It was eco-tourism as how it should be. To preserve and to celebrate one of the most impressive locations I have seen so far.
