One Amazing Composite Picture

6

So, before you get your panties all up in a bunch, we know this is a digital photograph, but we think the technique used would be an interesting analogue multiple exposure project. Still intrigued? Read on!

Stumbled upon this morning, this incredible composite image of a liquid rose was made by running colored water over a glass rose and photographing it 17 times, then, making a composite of the pictures… But, the challenge becomes, can this be done with an analogue camera? I’m thinking a lot of patience, a splitzer, a tripod and some multiple exposures could do the trick.

Some words from the artist:

This photo is a composite… If you couldn’t guess. The green stem and leaves are made up of 6 photos and the flower itself is made up of 11 different photos, so its a 17 shot composite. Another note to mention is the fact that this photo was taken upside down and I just rotated it so the water looks like its flying upwards. Well this was a fun and messy shoot, also an expensive one hahaha what with the $80 glass rose, I was pretty worried that it would fall and break on me during the shoot but luckily it didn’t.
See more of his work and how he did it on Anthony Chang's flickr

With the holidays coming up, and a whole lot of time between Christmas and New Years are you up for the challenge? Try it out, and post your results in the comments.

Definitely have to try this.........I'm thinking the white background won't work with film, but with a few changes this shot might be workable!

You could do multiple exposes on normal 35mm film, but on multiple frames ( like here in digital ) and then combine the film in an enlarger :) ( like layers in -probably- photoshop here )

@angelhaken, for a more analogue feel, you could have the images printed on transparencies and physically layer them, that could also give it some interesting volume.

    Chemical Manipulations with the Lomo’Instant

Perhaps you’ve already had chance to try light painting, multiple exposures and long exposures with your Lomo’Instant, but what can you experiment with next? Well, that’s exactly the thought I had which led to giving this Tipster a go. I wanted to shoot Lomo’Instant photos which felt a bit “messier” than what I’m usually used to and to use a technique which would open up new possibilities with the kinds of images I could create with my favorite instant camera. Well, here I go!
