LomoMatrix Caracas

6

It was a beautiful Saturday morning in sunny Caracas when the Lomographic Community in Venezuela had a blast during the first LomoMatrix ever made in the country. Have a look at the final video!

November 5, 2011 was the day we – “Los LomoLocos”, the Lomographic Community in Venezuela, gathered loaded with masks, bikes, hats and umbrellas at the first Lomomatrix Caracas. From the early morning, the lomographers arrived at one of the gardens of one of the most important universities in the city (UCV) to face the very hot sun and fire those lomographs! LC-A, Diana, Diana Mini, Holga 135BC, Colorsplash, Splitcam and Fisheye were some of the Lomo cameras we used along with other analog cameras we love.

I started the day shooting some portraits of my lomo amigos holding letters signs for LomoMatrix Caracas:

Then I shot a couple of candid photos to back my gallery. Below are some of the shots I got! (the ones where I appear – the lady in the red dress – were taken by one of my friends):

After we had all the negatives developed, my friend erikazambrano (co-producer of the Lomomatrix) got them scanned. When we got them I spent a couple of nights organizing all the shots and then trying to imagine a story for the video. Meanwhile, my friend Carolina got the perfect song for the video: “Abriendo Los Ojos”, by the Venezuelan musician Dolli (listen to his music), who is also a friend of mine and gave us permission to use his song! My friend Diego shot the videos and all I had to do was to put everything together -first video I ever did! We also had a competition (the winners won a couple of Lomography keychains) and a special projection at one of the most important photography schools in Caracas – La Escuela Foto Arte. I hope everyone liked it because we put heart into it!

So here it is for you to enjoy!

    Fresh from the Lab: 1990

A weekend without a lomowalk seems bad, at least for me. One Saturday morning, I decided to join my friends in their lomowalk. It was all cloudy at first but it didn't stop me from going out and walking. I brought my new Nikon FM2 and some expired rolls, just to test my camera. Was it just me being sleepy, or was my Nikon FM2 acting up? My photos turned out grainy, pale, and, in my opinion, looking so 1990s?

Lomography Fisheye No.2: Seven Years of Wonder

Exactly seven years ago, I bought this camera from Indonesia's local Lomography community. I remember having some savings in my bank account and just spending it all on this camera. At that time, I browsed the microsite for the Lomography Fisheye No.2 and immediately fell in love with it! Coincidentally, my friend who introduced me to Lomography just bought this same camera for his birthday. My life has changed ever since I had the Fisheye, my first lomographic camera.

    My First Indisposable Project

The idea behind this project was to shoot 24 moments in one week's time using a disposable camera. Incidentally, a friend from Seattle sent me two disposable cameras so I was finally able to participate. Disposable cameras aren't sold in Manila anymore. I timed my shoot during the week wherein I had to go out several times, also hoping for good weather.

The Adventures of Edwin and his Belair Instant Camera

Edwin from the Lomography Team first learnt about Lomo cameras when he was studying design. The first roll of Fisheye 1 from his photography classes made him very happy, and he kept Lomo in his life ever since. In his last trip to Taiwan, Edwin brought along the Belair Instant Camera. Did this Instant Camera bring him the same happiness? What does Edwin think about his travel companion?
