2 Simple Ways to Create a Storyboard!

2

Inspired by the LomoKino, here are two approaches of creating a storyboard!

1. Word Processor

Using any word program that you are able to create tables on, we suggest making 3 columns with 6 rows. Hit the return key to widen the first row of text boxes till they resemble squares which are large enough to draw in (see image directly below). For the second row of text boxes, in which you’ll write stage directions, make them half the height of the text boxes in the first row.

Once you have this template, print out as many sides as you’d like and off you are to create away! You can always save the document to print off any more you’ll need in the future!

2. Storyboard programs

There are a handful of free programs for download on the internet such as Celtex which lays everything on the line for you and will even teach you a thing or two about the standard terminology used in the industry such as ‘Medium Close Up’ or ‘Very Wide Shot’ which are ‘Camera Shots’ and describe how the shots are framed.

With celtex, the exciting part is the ‘Sketch Tool’ which, as listed out on their website, “includes pre-loaded icons for camera, lights and people that can be tagged with text and tools for drawing lines, arrows, shapes and adding text.” See the above image for their example on the storyboard visuals created using the sketch tool!

We’d be pleased to see your storyboard sketches along with your final LomoKino movie! If you’d like to write a pre-production, post-production piece we encourage you to do it!

My pleasure! Have used both approaches myself and each has different merits. We'd love to see any story boards for LomoKino films you've produced!
