Parc Montsouris: The Charming Park of the South of Paris

2

Parc Montsouris is a lovely park in the south of Paris. It has gorgeous lawns and flower beds, a charming lake, and plenty of benches. It's such a star, you might have even seen it recently in a movie.

The Parc Montsouris is located in the south of Paris, in the 14th arrondisement (Metro or Tram stops Cité Universitaire). It was originally conceived as an English-style garden, ordained by Haussman and Napoleon III. Although its name comes from its former life as a rodents’ nest, it is now a wonderful and delightful park with many statues, lush green lawns, a lake that provides a habitat for swans as well as 40 different species of wild ducks, and a very steep hill that is a delight for joggers.

It has numerous species of trees and gorgeous flower beds.

Its big green lawns provide a wonderful setting for picnics and other chill out activities:

Like all public parks in Paris, it closes at sunset. However, it is just across the road from the Cité Universitaire, a park that never sleeps.

Oh, and have I mentioned that this park is in one of my favorite movie scenes set in Paris? The movie ‘Paris, je t’aime’ is a collection of short movies all set in different neighborhoods, being a somewhat imbalanced movie with some lovely gems in it. My favorite short story is the one by Alexander Payne about the 14th. It is brilliant, funny and touching. And the park is one of the stars.

Please watch if you haven’t!

J'ai grandi juste à côté. C'est peut-être l'endroit qui me manque le plus à Paris. Très jolies photos qui me rendent nostalgique...

Chances are you've seen plenty of color-drenched photographs while browsing through the Photos section. Faces painted blue, pets tinted green, and foliage splashed with pink light. It's called "Colorsplashing," one of Lomography's earliest techniques for giving your shots a quick color boost. We dug through the Lomography archives to revisit "The Chakras of Colorsplashing," a special project created by Lomography and Staple Design six years ago.
