Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is shared by both Canada and America, it surpasses the sums four of the Great Lakes through Lake Erie to Lake Ontario. These were taken in October 2011.

Niagara falls are majestic natural wonders that has inspired and awed me every time I have visited.

The first time I recall going was when I was seven years old. It was the first and last trip I remember taking with my mother and father as a family, but it was magical. I remember playing on Goat Island with my little brother and walking the Rainbow Bridge. A lot of strong memories were made that weekend. I wanted to take someone special back with me this time. It had been many years since I was at Niagara Falls, but the memories returned and fresh ones were made with someone special.

The Falls have two main sides called the American Falls and the larger Horseshoe Falls, most people see that Goat Island is the physical presence that divides the two falls. There are visitor centers and parks that line the falls. You can also purchase tickets for guided tours that take caves and other means to get extra close to the falls. It is possible to get too close to the falls and as recently as this year, people have fallen in and gone missing.

This time we bought passage on the Maid of the Mist which runs several months out of the year from both the American and Canadian side taking passengers right up to a safe distance from the falls in a heavily motored boat. Rain coats were provided. It was also raining when we there so we were already damp. The tour tells you some of the history and use of the Falls as a power source.

I was glad I had my trusty Diana F+, standard & 38mm lenses, and a box full of 400 ISO film.

At night the falls are illuminated by giant lights on the Canadian side with alternating colored lights. We went back, but at the time I only had one roll left of B&W 400. I set my ever creative Diana F+ on a flat spot for a long exposure of the falls.

I really think you should visit the Falls. Whether seven or when I turn 70, I think I will always admire its beauty.

The Diana F+ is a new twist on the ‘60s classic cult camera. Famous for its dreamy and soft-focused images, the Diana F+ is now packed with extra features such as panorama and pinhole capabilities. Available in our Online Shop.

Reuben Wu fascinates, both with his splendid photographs and the music he churns out for electronic band Ladytron, or when he's doing a solo gig as a DJ. He's also one heck of a nice guy, who, despite being ultra-talented, has been gracious enough to grant another interview and share more of his amazing photos, which were taken with the Lomo LC-A+ with Russian lens.
