My Friend theprime

Meet Will Goodan aka theprime - a Lomographer and graphic designer based in LA. Read on to get to know more about him!

Introduce yourself, please.

My name is Will Goodan, I’m 24, and am a Los Angeles native. I just recently graduated from Art Center College of Design with a bachelors in Graphic Design and Motion Graphics and am now back in LA from backpacking South America!

I visited your website and was overwhelmed with all these colorful, surreal graphics and images! Where do you pick up your inspiration?

I take my inspiration from absolutely everything and anything. Photography has influenced me greatly in terms of lighting, composition and color. I have to say though, my biggest love are the aesthetics and styles created in the 80’s and 90’s. They are the best decades this world will ever see! (bracing myself for all the hate mails).

When was your first Lomography experience? How was it?

It was super mega magical to say the least. It was 4 years ago when I was purchasing some vintage records and saw a Holga up for sale at an astonishingly low price. I figured why not, impulse bought it, and filled it with film. I enjoyed the sense of surprise that I got with it as opposed to digital. Been shooting film ever since. I found Lomography to be a good way to loosen up and not care so much about the details, I find I do too much of that in my work.

Any funny/strange/crazy Lomographic stories?

Definitely one of the subjects I shot was, how can I put this, beyond the average anger level for taking his picture. After briskly power walking over to me, he said, “It’s my property, you have to pay for it” I’m fairly positive I felt physical heat emit from him at this point. I simply stated “Lomography is not an interference in your life, but a part of it.”

Show us the Lomograph that you’re most proud of, and tell us the story behind it.

I’m not saying its the best picture I’ve ever taken, but it reflects the way I felt exactly at that moment perfectly. I had shot it at my family’s ranch up the coast in California and had tossed the roll in my car, forgetting about it completely as it marinated in the center console for almost 6 months. I finally told myself I would develop the roll and thought while I’m at it, to cross process the 120 negative and get buckwild with it. I got the roll back and this shot not only captured the feeling I had, but summed up all the years I’ve spent there. Lomo for life.

You mentioned in your Lomohome profile that you are also a DJ. How does music affect your art (and vice-versa)?

In design and motion graphics especially, music is the best friend in the universe. Its something that I cannot design without. Often I’ll hear a track and immediately have vivid visual elements in my head and want to get it straight to paper. Its like creating a music video before even hearing the song, its not possible.

Pick five songs to include in your life soundtrack.

I would say top most impossible question ever, forever.

1. A Tribe Called Quest – Push it Along
2. Beastie Boys – Egg Man
3. Modern Talking – Cheri Cheri Lady (please watch music video)
4. Chemical Brothers – Block Rockin’ Beats
5. Boards of Canada – Telephasic Workshop

If I were visiting L.A., what’s the first place that I should check out?

Tourist or not, put on your Rambo belt of 154 rolls of film and get to Hollywood. So many chances for good photos you’ll explode and become cross processed.

Name three things in your wishlist.

1. Horizon Perfekt !!!!!
2. Hasselblad 2000fcw
3. Helios Lens 85/1.5

Any last words for the Lomography community?

Take you camera everywhere because when that moment happens and you don’t have it, bummer.

I’ll have some rad work including a new music video and skate deck dropping soon, so keep in touch! Check it all out at
