As Thanksgiving nears and with it a busy schedule, you might need to relax and at the same time, do some shopping for your Thanksgiving celebration. One good place to do so is at the Salcedo Weekend Market in Makati City.
Here in Manila, Thanksgiving isn’t a holiday for most of us. But because there are many Americans who have made this country their home or for some who are here because of work or business, also tourists, Thanksgiving has now been given more attention. Now, there are grocery stores and shops that have Thanksgiving sales or promos as the holiday nears.
As not to cram for grocery shopping, there’s an alternative in prepping up for Thanksgiving. The Salcedo Weekend Market is where it’s at. A parking area turned market on Saturdays and Sundays. As for our American friends and for all others who’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving, you can’t go wrong here.
The Salcedo Weekend Market gets transformed every weekend from a parking lot to a food haven. Local and foreign food traders offer their best produce here. They have all local delicacies coming from the north to the far south. Interestingly, French cuisines made it to this part of Manila. Looking around, you’ll just drool all over, Spanish dishes are to die for, I saw an Italian stand, Mediterranean dishes I can smell, a wide array of freshly-baked breads, fruits, meats (yes, turkey is available), wines and the Filipino’s all-time favourite, the sorbetes (ice cream) cart. Definitely all your Thanksgiving needs are very well covered here. And for others who are health conscious, there are also organic veggies, fruits, and meats available.
If you ask me, I could very well celebrate Thanksgiving here. Visitors are provided with tables and chairs where you can relax and eat your grub. A huge cup of a watermelon fruit shake would be a nice end to it. And if you’re bringing your kids along, no problem, there’s a playground beside it where they could play and run around.
So, if you’re visiting Manila or if you’re here right now, you could go to the Salcedo Weekend Market for a hassle-free Thanksgiving shopping.
