One of the things that make a trip to a far-flung place truly memorable is getting the chance to interact with the locals and share fun moments with them. Five years ago, disdis was able to do exactly that on a trip to Zinguinchor, Senegal, and it goes without saying that it was most certainly one for the books.
Much of modern dance as it is today owes a lot to Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn, husband and wife who founded the famous school and dance company, the Denishawn School of Dancing and Related Arts in 1915 Los Angeles, California. At first solo artists, St. Denis and Shawn began collaborating a year prior on dances often described as exotic and sensual, at times even erotic.

July 20, 1969 marked one of the most historic events in the history of mankind: on this day, the Apollo 11 crew finally landed on lunar soil. It was the culmination of a decade's worth of hard work, one that was witnessed by the whole world and remembered for the rest of time.
The characters in Argus Paul Estabrook's work in paper cutting are the stuff nightmares are made of: unusual forms, jagged edges, arms outstretched as if seeking salvation—all emphasized further by the plain white background on which they are placed. Combined, these details paint a picture straight out of Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy."
