They say one could never take a bad photograph when in Melbourne, Australia. I can't agree more and with a panoramic Lomo camera like Horizon, it makes your captured images of Melbourne even more endearing and memorable.

They say one could never take a bad photograph when in Melbourne, Australia. I can’t agree more and with a panoramic Lomo camera like Horizon, it makes your captured images of Melbourne even more endearing and memorable.

The city of Melbourne is very much Victorian influenced, with a modern and eclectic mix of cultures and architecture. Take The Federation Square, a low but modern architecture built on a uniquely designed public square, which faces the St Paul’s Cathedral and Flinder’s Street Station, is a place where the heart of arts and designs of Melbourne city thrives in the thick of culture institutions like The National Design Center, Ian Potter Center: National Gallery of Victoria, Australian Center for The Moving Image (where I caught Pixar: 20 Years of Animation) and many more.

One can sit at the Atrium in the open space watching the giant flat screen or feed the not so shy seagulls (at your own risk of losing your snack!) or just lounge at the cozy cafes and bask in the rich city culture of cultural gatherings, rallies or public performances. Just across the road, is the serene Yarra River, popular with the rowing teams cutting through at times, also has its sides lined with gourmet food and beverage places and shopping malls.

Wanting to experience richer street cultures, we hit the nearby Queen Victoria Market and St. Kilda’s weekend art market, encountering baskers and amazing street performers alike before hitting Acland Street later for food served by beautiful waiting staff. Just a few hours drive out of the urban city limits, lies another contrasting dimension we all deeply desired in a sunny getaway for surfing and basking in the sun.

Enduring a long ride(which was all worth it)to see the picturesque 12 Apostles through The Great Ocean Road, we passed through Bells Beach, Apollo Bay and some of the most beautiful coastal beaches one could have ever seen. Indeed, Melbourne is one of the most loved cities in Australia, these pictures just makes me want to come back again… soon.

Cinematographer Michal Dabal on the Petzval Lens

Here’s what happens before we interview a photographer. We gush about the work though we have yet to find out the cameras and processes behind the brilliant composition or the light architecture. And even when they haven’t used a Lomo camera, we feature them anyway. But every once in a while comes a pro who uses one of our premium lenses at work and our fun cameras off-duty. This makes us mighty glad, more so when their images are good and worth sharing. We count cinematographer Michal Dabal's work among them.

    LomoLocations: Beijing, China

Beijing is a ready-made template for panoramic shots. Tourist baits like The Great Wall, Forbidden City and Summer Palace stretch for miles. Those who walk from end to end will have more to say. For instance, that the ground goes on to infinity. Or that they have never been so tired and amazed all at once.

Choe More: Capturing the Spirit of Youth

Choe More refuses to confine his photographic style into a single, pre-cut template. Instead, he prefers to see it as capturing fleeting moments, "about remembering and about feeling," he says. He likes it when emotions, whether positive or otherwise, are stirred within those who look at his photographs.

A Salute to the Masters: Judo (A Tribute to Sabine Weiss)

This article is a tribute to the street and humanist photographer Sabine Weiss. Considered a living legend in street photography, she likes to photograph daily lives of people, trying to capture the emotions she recognizes around her. Weiss like to photograph people of all ages but she especially loves to take photos of children, masterfully immortalizing their spontaneous gestures and emotions. For this article, I was inspired by one of her rare sports photos of some children practicing judo. Do you want to know more about this great artist? Well, read on!

Caleb Savage: Into the Darkroom, Out in the Open

When asked to recall the moment they first became truly interested in photography, most photographers would remember the magical feeling of picking up a hand-me-down or secondhand camera, the thrill of shooting an entire roll through, and the elation upon seeing and holding their first ever set of photographs. Caleb Savage, however, had quite a unique experience. At 10 years old, he had his first taste of working in the darkroom making prints at Boy Scout camp, thereby beginning a more than a decade-long affinity with photography.
