2

In this new ongoing series "5 Questions on Analogue Photography with…" we send out the same set of questions to photographers. This time, Christine Zona – a freelance photographer – answered these and sent along a selection of her work.

Name: Christine Zona
Occupation: Freelance Photographer
Country: USA

1. Tell us something about yourself.
I was born and raised in New Jersey and I currently reside in San Francisco, California. This year I spent over 80 hours on airplanes traveling the world. I have a cockatiel named Frankie Provolone and I recently became an aunt to Riley Caitlin Zona.

2. Why do you still shoot in analogue?
I adore film. It has a certain look and feel that can’t be duplicated. I also love that it’s tangible. There is something magical about loading film, advancing the camera and waiting for the results.

3. What are the photographic paraphernalia (cameras, films, and accessories) do you usually have in your camera bag?
I usually have a Holga and a panoramic camera whether it be the Horizon Perfekt or the Sprocket Rocket. I also always have electric tape and color slide film. Provia is by far my favorite.

4. Share with us a killer trick of yours that will always result to a great photo.
Great photos are a by-product of experience. So get involved with what you photographing. If you are photographing dancers, get up and dance with them. If you are photographing skateboarders, try to skate with them.

5. Which photographers influence your work?
I always been a fan of Jill Greenberg. The total opposite of film, but I think that’s why I am drawn to it. Her portraits are hauntingly beautiful. I also love Richard Avedon. His large scale prints are breath-taking.
