Fraga do Puio (Portugal)

10

This is a perfect place to relax, surrounded by an endless sky, rare birds and a breathtaking landscape.

Fraga do Puio, in the extreme northeast part of Portugal, near the village of Picote (municipality of Miranda do Douro), is a prominent and exposed natural rock platform with vertical cliffs, dominating the Douro river canyon (http://beta.lomography.com/magazine/locations/2009/01/05/douro-river).

In Mirandese, it is called “Peinha de l Puio”. Mirandese is a language sparsely spoken in that small area of northeastern Portugal. The Portuguese Parliament granted it co-official recognition (along with Portuguese language) for local matters in 1998.

Fraga do Puio provides an astonishing and beautiful view over the river, as well as the perfect place to relax.

Frequently, you can see several rare birds that live in this region, like certain kinds of eagles, storks and vultures.

There is also a rock-carved panel at one of the most prominent corners of the platform, which depicts an archer in launch position with a figure representing the sun in the background.

So overall its a pretty awesome spot, and I can’t wait to go there again!

    Zenit KM: Feathered Friends

Their movement is as hard to predict as the weather. One minute they're on a standstill, the next they horde the sky with their brisk wings. This is precisely why people need binoculars and camouflage suits just to trace the track of birds. Similarly for photographers, these creatures present a friendly challenge. To capture the perfect stance, on land as in mid-air, is a reward.

Every year I get the winter blues. I start imagining the feel of the sunrays, ice cold beer after a long summer day, and the endless hours spent on the beach. I have captured moments, memories, and dreams this year, which is my favorite thing to do. This is a short version and visual diary of my year 2014.

A Salute to the Masters: Judo (A Tribute to Sabine Weiss)

This article is a tribute to the street and humanist photographer Sabine Weiss. Considered a living legend in street photography, she likes to photograph daily lives of people, trying to capture the emotions she recognizes around her. Weiss like to photograph people of all ages but she especially loves to take photos of children, masterfully immortalizing their spontaneous gestures and emotions. For this article, I was inspired by one of her rare sports photos of some children practicing judo. Do you want to know more about this great artist? Well, read on!

James Wright's So It Goes x Sri Lanka Photo Diary (Part I)

In December last year James Wright, editor and creative director of So It Goes Magazine, went on a two-week trip to Sri Lanka, "a place so long on our bucket list, but up until then, as yet unvisited," he writes on the first of his three-part photo diary. Herein is the first of his series that chronicles his adventures, highlighted by a selection of breathtaking images of the Sri Lankan countryside and the locals, among many other images, captured with his trusty photographic companions: the Leica MP, Lomo LC-A+, and an assortment of films including the LomoChrome Purple.

A Salute to the Masters: The Mediterranean Sea (A Tribute to Édouard Boubat)

This article is a tribute to an important street photographer, Edouard Boubat. His pictures are characterized by great poetic touch, strong social sensitivity, and utmost respect for people and places. Inspired by a book which contains Boubat's photos taken in the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, I pay homage by showcasing some of my photos taken within the same geographic area.
