Colours of Yellowstone National Park

2

Ahh, Yellowstone, one of the tourist capitals of the world. My parents have a cabin nearby and so I have been there numerous times. As it is a tourist hot-zone, I typically try to avoid taking my camera, but I got suckered in one time and happened to have some slide film in there. I snapped a few and realized why people take their cameras and decided that I will always have one with me on future visits.

The colors of that place are fantastic! Next time I will certainly cross-process the slide film and can imagine that the colors will be even better. Color is everywhere, in the water especially. Something about the Earths core heating this water directly puts all sorts of minerals and things in it that are really something special. Algae and such create bright oranges and reds, minerals form crystals that are white as can be, and the water itself is clear and clean, making the view to the bottom splendid. I certainly learned my lesson to take my camera everywhere, even with the Mecca of tourists all pointing and shooting.

Reviving An Old Polaroid 1000 Camera

Some time ago, my parents-in-law gave me an old Polaroid camera that they used during my wife's childhood. After some investigation, I found out that Polaroid had stopped making instant film. But the factory in Enschedé, the Netherlands had been taken over by The Impossible Project, so I bought a package of fresh film and gave it a try!

A Salute to the Masters: R.I.P. (A Tribute to George Krause)

This article is dedicated to the multifaceted American photographer George Krause and to his series depicting funeral monuments realized between 1962 and 1963. I was able to know about this series thanks to an important essay on photography written by former Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) Director of Photography, John Szarkowski. For this tribute, I loaded my trusty Praktica camera with a roll of Ilford film and took a series of photos in the Monumental Cemetery in my city, Como. Take a look!

    Registering Moments With the Lomo'Instant

Some people say instant photos bring about a feeling of nostalgia. Although I often use the Lomo'Instant Camera with different crazy accessories such as the Splitzer and color gels, I have to agree there is something about it — dreamy vignettes maybe? — that always makes me want to go back in time and experience it all over again. In the name of analogue photography and good old memories, we passed by some classic spots in Vienna and took one shot after the other. Take a closer look at our gallery.

12 Months, 12 Projects: March Of Caffenol

My list of resolutions for 2015 consists of 12 projects, one for every month. March was for caffenol. You have probably heard of the amazing fact that you can develop black and white photos with coffee, sodium, and vitamin C. I had tried this before but with less than stellar results. Somehow, there's always something going wrong. Time to devote a few rolls to caffenol to finally get the hang of it.

My New York City Bike Ride Through Purple Eyes

What do you do when you don't have much time in a city like New York but you want to see everything, feel the vibe and be part of the community, even for a short time? Jump on a bike and enjoy what trains, buses and cabs can never give you: be part of the city. Take a camera with you to capture the moments and sights you don't want to forget. I did this with my LC-A 120 and LomoChrome Purple film.

    Analog By Nature

It's late October in Copenhagen and summer was well and truly behind us. With the nights drawing in, the chances of going out with one of my cameras was slim. All was not lost at this time of year, however, as it allowed me time to focus on my own personal music projects—I am a professional composer/musician and audio engineer at my own studio by day.

The World According to Herr Willie: The Amazon

It was the Amazon which I had longed for my whole life. And when it was finally a set deal that I will travel to Brazil with two of my best friends for the Copa do Mundo (World Cup), we really had to start our adventure in the Amazon. I had known about this magical place deep in the rainforest. There was a lodge run by local people of indigenous background, with wooden houses that float on the water and a limited number of visitors. It was eco-tourism as how it should be. To preserve and to celebrate one of the most impressive locations I have seen so far.
