Twenty Years Back in Time

12

I just turned 22 and last weekend, I found some negatives of the photos my dad took when I turned 2 years old and my brother was just born.

This was a day near September 12th. My little brother was born the same day I turned 2 years old, so yes, we celebrate birthdays together every year. Now, let me show you the pictures taken by my dad.

My dad used to have an Olympus OM-10 that he carried everywhere we go. He took these photos using that camera and roll of Ilford film.

I used to get into my brother’s cradle (even though I already slept on a bed) just to be with him and cuddle him.

If I think a bit about this, my dad has always been a great inspiration for me when it comes to photography. I always remember him carrying his camera to every single place. He didn’t like people to over-pose, he still likes to photograph people acting naturally, laughing naturally. I can say that he still takes pictures of my brother and I when we go to the beach or have our birthday. As well as my dad, my mom also loves photography, but she’s more likely a digital girl. And now with my little brother growing up, she takes her camera everywhere they go.

As I’ve always been surrounded by photography, there was no way I could do else with my spare time.

It was nice to recover this negative and a bit of my childhood. I’m hoping to find some more!

Spinner 360: Pull the Cord and Let the Magic Happen!

The story between the Spinner 360 and I goes way back to the year 2010, when Lomography decided to send me a beta model of the Spinner 360 to test. It was a complete surprise! I thought, "What the hell is that?" as I first took this camera out of the package. Then, when my little brother grabbed it from me and pulled the cord, it buzzed and turned 360°! We all had the same expression: "Whoa..."

Festival Season: Lots of Variety at the North Sea Jazz

My brother had a photo exhibition last year at the North Sea Jazz Festival and got two tickets. So just like the old days with our father, we went to the Ahoy Rotterdam for an evening of jazz and other music. I was armed with an analogue SLR camera, telephoto lens, and sensitive film!

    An Afternoon in Tagaytay Highlands

I have good memories of Tagaytay Highlands. There had been times when some of my friends and I would spend the weekend there, playing all sorts of sports and having our bodies healed in the warm and lapping jacuzzi pool. But those were distant memories. I was able to go back to this place, but only for an afternoon, and tried to remember the good old days.

Summer Hot Spots: Blaavand, Denmark (Part One)

When I was a child, I regularly went to Blaavand located at the Danish west coast with my brothers and my parents. However, I didn't anymore when I grew up. But in 2012, we hit the road again. It was my first visit there in about 20 years. I took the chance and packed as many cameras as possible into my luggage. In this article, I'm going to present to you the photos I took with my Nikon F-501 SLR.

    Fresh from the Lab: 1990

A weekend without a lomowalk seems bad, at least for me. One Saturday morning, I decided to join my friends in their lomowalk. It was all cloudy at first but it didn't stop me from going out and walking. I brought my new Nikon FM2 and some expired rolls, just to test my camera. Was it just me being sleepy, or was my Nikon FM2 acting up? My photos turned out grainy, pale, and, in my opinion, looking so 1990s?

Pushing Boundaries: Multiple Exposing Film Soup

As you may have read in my previous article, I truly fell in love with Lomography when I combined my Fisheye camera with an old Canon AE-1 for magical photographic results. Last summer, I took so many pictures of flowers that it started to become almost boring for me. My waning interest and the coming winter meant that I had to figure out something else to do with my 35mm film.
