LomoPeople: Vera

2

I met this crazy girl in my last student's year, while studying abroad - those times will always have a special place in my heart.

I met Vera while studying in Spain. It’s funny that we had to travel to another country to meet, and that we don’t see each other often now, because we are both Portuguese and we even share some acquaintances. Portuguese? Some people don’t believe Vera is not Indian or Gipsy because of her looks!

She is a very vibrant and funny person and I cherish the time we both spent together with Guay, the white Spanish puppy that later returned with her to Portugal. Great, great times and some of my best LC-A pictures are from those days – cameras also have a heart!

We danced under the hot sun at Elx al Carrer Street Arts Festival, slept in the beach while wondering around the Spanish coast, did the “botellón”, jumped train rails to take pictures of graffiti… We really became close during those months. And of course, Guay was always there with us!

It was a free time away from home and also my last months as a student – how can I not miss that? Nowadays with work, our friends and our life back at home, we don’t see each other often, but every time we meet by chance at a concert or party, screams and laughs are loudly heard! :D

After 10 days in Hanoi, I joined a group tour to Sapa, an area known for its hill tribes. This is a photo story of my two days and one night in this remote but vibrant place.

Fresh from the LomoLab: My Summer at a Campsite

I prefer being outdoors whenever I go on a vacation at the seaside. For this reason, I always choose to stay at a campsite instead of a hotel. This year, I stayed at a beautiful one in the south of Italy. Here is a series of photos which I received a few days ago from the excellent LomoLab service, taken with my Sprocket Rocket. Have a look after the jump!

Shoot recognizable images with the Petzval

You want your subject be the center of attention? Petzval lens photos are recognizable for sharpness and crispness in the centre, strong color saturation, wonderful swirly bokeh effect, artful vignettes and narrow depth of field that will make your subjects stand out!

    Finally, My Own Petzval Lens

In April of this year I had the chance to test the Petzval Lens and to write a review on it for the German photography forum Kwerfeldein. The lens excited me from the very beginning, at the time it was introduced on Kickstarter. I was afraid that once I had tested the lens, I would want to have one of my own! Well, that’s what happened; a year later, I finally bought my very own Petzval lens.

Kick-Off Country: Kicking Off the World Cup Blues in Paris

Les Bleus may have been booted out of the World Cup by Germany, but for me France is always a winner. The number of places to go around Paris, especially, can never be exhausted: the Eiffel Tower, Sacré Cœur, the Seine, the Arc de Triomphe, and this time, I fell in love with the Cimetière du Père-Lachaise.

The Magic Yet To Come: Part 5

Last week, I received the strangest thing through my letterbox. It was a postcard with this photograph on 1 side. The photo is of me sitting by the sea whilst I was on vacation last year. But I have literally no idea who took this shot – That’s why I came here, to ask for your help on my search for my mysterious photographer and to try and get to bottom of the riddle they wrote me. Please help me if you can!

    Object of My Affection: Subbuteo

In my early adolescence, I liked to play table football. For my 12th birthday, my parents gifted me with a wonderful Subbuteo table soccer game set that I had wished for many months! This was my favorite toy until I discovered other interesting hobbies, like ham radio and electronics. So after some years, I gave away this game to other kids. I always remembered this game with pleasure and a hint of nostalgia.

Fresh from My Darkroom: The First Game of the New Rugby Season

Last Sunday, the local rugby team Rugby Como played the first match of the 2014-1025 season. Rugby is my favorite sport to photograph, and for some years I've been documenting almost every home match of this young team. This time I used a 1959 Zorki 5 camera with a vintage 1958 Industar-50 lens loaded with a timeless film, the Ilford HP5+ developed in a century-old developer, the mythical Rodinal. Take a look after the jump!
