That's the story of how I discovered lomography and my very first roll with Holga....
Back in summer 2004, I was surfing on the internet when I discovered a site making a review about the book “Mes Vacances avec Holga” (My Holidays with Holga) by Fréderic Lebain and I the pictures I saw …. Waow, I was breathless, and wondered what kind of camera could produce such images… I discovered that these amazing shots were made with this cheap plastic camera named “Holga” (and realized that “Holga” wasn’t the girlfriend of F. Lebain he spent his holidays with…).
I was into a photographic activity for over 8 years at this time (but I only used my old Olympus OM20, a great classic camera as well), but found it a bit boring to have always the same kind of pictures, I thought that this little toy camera could bring me something new and different in my photographic passion. So I bought one as quick as possible !
Well, when I received it I was really happy and showed everybody around me my new toy: some laughed at me saying that it wasn’t “serious” photography, but other found that really funny and interesting. And then came the first opportunity to use it: my brother’s wedding! A wedding is always a geat opportunity to take pictures and all the people are taking pictures…. but only with the standardized digital cameras! I was the only one with this big piece of plastic and taking pictures with 120 film! :))
And I made a mistake with the views counter: I selected the wrong number (16 instead of 12….) and made my first “Holgarama” without knowing it! I was a bit surprised when the film was developped, and even disappointed, because I imagined an other result, but then I looked closely to the shots and found this overlapping effect really great!
But of course, that didn’t stop me and I shot a lot of other rolls with Holga to improve myself in the lomographic art… and I was quickly addicted to it.
2 Years later, in 2006, I met the lomo-ambassador from Nice, jazzgohan (http://www.lomography.com/homes/jazzgohan) who introduced me to the lomographic website and to the fantastic world of new cameras! I opened my lomohome and my lomo-addiction became worse, as I bought a lot of new cameras….
But something more important happened to me in 2006. In the same summer where my lomo-addiction was becoming strong, I also met a girl, “THE” girl I was waiting for… you know her well, as she’s my favorite photographic model, we live a happy life together and she is simply the love of my life… I love you Kathi
