Why I Love Film

This is an easy question to answer for me.

First of all – I look better on film.
How often do you find yourself looking at photos on facebook the morning after a party going “do I seriously look like that?” Something happens with digital images – they don’t capture people in an honest way. On the other hand, with film photos – even the ones that I don’t particularly love, I feel like they at least look like me.

How often do you go on vacation and take hundreds (or thousands) of photos. And by the time you get home you’ve already looked at them so many times that you’re not even excited to show your friends. Well, with film you have to wait until you’re home to get them developed. This takes AT LEAST a day. Then you get to experience your trip all over again! Plus, you can’t take as many photos with film so you really just capture a few moments and the rest gets to live on in your memory forever. Too many people these days are so caught up in capturing every moment that they forget to stop and experience them.

And finally, you never know what you’re gonna get. Light leaks are probably my most favorite thing in the entire world. Who doesn’t love a good burn in the corner of their photo? We spend hours editing photos to look like film. Why don’t we just shoot film and #nofilter. So much cooler.
