This building is called the Rijtuigenloods (coach barrack) and it’s an old railway building, now in use as event location. I pass it twice a day on my way to work and back, so I must have seen it several thousend times by now. And yet I cannot stop taking pictures of it. There is something about that zig-zag roof that is simply irresistable to me. I have to photograph it. With every new camera I get, new film I try, new photography trick I learn, I find myself being drawn to this place.
I’ve been inside it, too, but that was a bit of a disappointment. Not that it’s ugly on the inside, it’s a pretty decent evento location I guess, roomy, surprisingly light, and with lots of nice industrial details still intact. It just doesn’t have the same attraction for me as the exterior.
I mean, look at it. Those yummy bricks, the half round windows, the cheerful yellow and black doors… I love the way the rising sun reflects of the gutters in early spring or fall. How can you not love a building like that?
