My camerapeadia: Walnutcam

A description on my camera collection, one camera at a time

What?
A walnut. Okay, I’m stretching the definition of camera here. Inspired by @francescco and his amazing pinholes (go check out his lomohome, it’s great) I made a pinhole camera in an empty walnut. Actually, I made two: one (the one in the picture) had the bit of metal with the pinhole attached on the inside, and one had it attached to the outside.

When?
February 2013

How?
I made it.

Well?
So, I made two. One of them looked good (the one in the picture), the other one actually worked (but was covered in bits of tape). Sort of. It’s not the best picture in the world, but I can definitely recognize myself. The other one looked better, but didn’t give any result. On my negative, only a tiny circle had been exposed (half over a sprocket hole, too). So the pinhole on the outside seems to work better. Well, this is of course a pretty small sample, not very scientific. I’ll try both of them again some time.

Random fun facts:
- black marker sort of oozes trough a walnut shell from the inside out
- both duct tape and electricity tape refuse to stick properly to a walnut. The inside is fine.

I give you an award for your patience. I would have probably cracked enough walnuts to make a salad yet still not have gotten a usable shell. :)
