I bought my Lubitel back in October 2010, and in the past few months it quickly became my favourite camera.
If you’d told me this before, I’d never have believed I could love another camera with as much passion as I love my LC-A. But these two are my lomographic dream-team right now, and they complement each other perfectly.
The LC-A is still my choice for every-day lomography, the “Take your camera everywhere” camera – and I do, literally, take it everywhere. It’s small, inconspicuous, and fits in every bag or pocket. The Lubitel obviously is quite the opposite. Taking a picture takes time, but you have complete control of all the settings. You really need to compose your image, instead of just snapping away. But it’s an effort that’s both fun and really worth it, you’ll be rewarded with some great shots!
At first I was scared of having to chose time and aperture myself, but it is surprisingly easy. I got a manual exposure calculator from this website – basically you have to estimate the light situation and then chose a time/aperture combination based on the ISO from the table. It’s really that simple. (I also got an Exposure Metre App for my iPod, but I hardly ever use it… the paper one is just so much quicker to use!)
This is a gallery of my favourite photos so far.
So far I’ve just been shooting in square format… I’m going to test the endless panorama and the Lubikin Adaptor soon though, I hope, I’m just waiting for the right occasion!
