My first color shots with Diana mini

Saturday I loaded my mini with her first colorfilm, by monday I had already finished the roll - it's so addictive ! - and today I got them back from the lab.

For those of you who actually read this blog (I seriously doubt if anyone reads this – but I don’t care haha) when I got my very first Diana mini film developped I was affraid my expectations were to high, but I was pleasantely surprised. Read about it here

So now, with my first colorfilm, I was afraid, yet again. Except for maybe 2 rolls of color on my Holga, about 5 years ago, I don’t really have any experience with colorphotography. Here on lomography.com, I see millions and trillions of beautiful colors, but also a lot of uhm, how do I put this, washed out colors are either realy pretty or realy ugly. And I’m not to keen on grainy either. And I especially dislike the combination of both. ( Am I terribly wrong about this ? Please prove me wrong, I love a good eye-opener ! )

My film of choice was Fujicolor superia 200 asa, because it was a bright and sunny day, and because with my previous 400 asa film, I had had some over-exposure, especially with doubles.
I was a bit worried that now they would be under-exposed because after all, I live in Belgium, not the Bahama’s, but I was very pleased with the results.
Maybe it’s a good thing to always expect the worst, that way there’s a good chance to be pleasantly surprised ! oh wait, according to the rules were not suppose to care. Sorry !

Anyway, there are some pictures where I remeber the actual colors being a bit more vivid, but thanks to my horrible short-term memory, soon enough I will forget about what the colors realy looked like and just enjoy the colors I’ve captured.

Some examples of this:

Some blue skies:

Some crazy self-portrait attempts:

And some DIY splitzer fun:

I just ‘splitzed’ it with some masking tape.

The rest of my first color shots can be found here

Conclusion: I absolutely adore this camera, it’s actually way better than I had expected/feared. Way, waaay beter. If you don’t have one, go out and buy it now. Seriously.
