My best photo

The last time I shot with film was at Glastonbury 2009. Being a festival notorious for mud, I didn’t want my precious (and expensive) DSLR to get ruined. So I bought several disposable cameras and remembered why I love film.

I then carried on with my DSLR, until I got a Diana F+ for Christmas last year. Shamefully, it wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I actually bit the bullet and took some photos. I was so excited, I took them to Jessops then got bitterly disappointed when it took two weeks for the film to come back. They were rubbish. They didn’t turn out like the pictures in the book.

Deciding that £10 a pop to develop and print the film was too expensive, I was hoping that Lomo offered a converter . And hey presto – they did.

Excited, i went and bought the 35mm back, and found some expired film that was fished the from the loft. This time I took them to my local independent photography shop. I asked if they could develop and print the sprocket holes. He looked at me as if I had asked for the moon on a stick.

Thankfully, on this occasion I didn’t want the holes developed, but I think I’ve brought the world of Lomography to Bexhill. Again, the pictures were rubbish. Sorry to Lomographers across the world, I was a bad ambassador.

That all changed when I got my hands on the LC-A at Lomo’s first stop of their RoadShow. I had a lot of fun with that little camera. Using the redscale film, I was hoping that it would give Brighton a retro look. But mainly, I was hoping the photos just came out ok.

Excited, I took the film back to the local photography shop. Third time lucky, I had photos that I was proud of.

This photo was taken on the walkabout and is one of my favourites. We all went down to the carcass that is the West Pier and started to snap away. I think a good day was had by all, and I got to meet some some fellow Lomographers in the flesh.

I am now hooked on the LC-A, but it’s going to take me a while to save up for it. In the meantime, I am going to master the Diana F. She will not defeat me!
