Putting the Play in Film!

I’m a person who’s fascinated in cosplay. Now what the heck did you say? Cosplay? It is a coined word from “Costume” and “Play” where it allows an individual to personally portray a character from a certain tv show, cartoon or series. Ironically, it is done throughout the year and not only for trick or treating. My curiosity began to unfold as I wasn’t just intrigued by the costumes and props but by the way a certain character was brought to life in line with his/her personality, speech and mannerisms.

Normally, I cosplay and attend local conventions or meet-ups in my country and I never fail to bring my trusty point and shoot digicam to document the events. But those days ended, when I found out that my digicam was stolen from me in one unfortunate convention. I was really devastated and going on a guilt trip for sometime and even got discouraged to attend any cosplay event without nothing to take pictures with anymore.

A few months back, I attempted using film cameras a couple of times but it just didn’t seem to sink in as an alternative until my brother encouraged me to try a fisheye 2 camera for an upcoming cosplay event.

Here were the results:

There are no accidents in this world since I have finally found a new interest and with my love for cosplay and film photography. I have developed a new hobby to invest in which I now call “COSFILM”, my own coined term for cosplay + film.

Surprisingly, I was given many opportunities for open cosplay shoots and other conventions. I see every event as on opportunity to grab my gear of film rolls and a camera every know and then. I may be limited to only 36 shots but it won’t stop me from capturing the colorful culture of cosplayers.
