There was an amazing old lab near my neighborhood. I often passed by and checked the nice portraits that were all over the window shop. The man that ran it must have been taking pictures for years, there were really old portraits there.
But the portraits that I loved the most were from the immigrants. You could see Africans and Indians with their best ethnic costumes – I found those portraits absolut gems.
A few weeks ago, I got a huge surprise – the window shop was empty and I could see that inside, so was the shop. Well, not completely empty. Standing on a corner there was a big, vintage, orange thermometer from Agfa, looking like it was waiting for me to get it.
So, the man died and since no one wants to run a photo lab these days (?!), the place is for rent. I was lucky enough to find the guys that were emptying it. Well, you know young guys – you just have to smile. :)
While one of them was still saying “Oh, they made an inventory…”, the younger one was saying “Take it! It’s a present, from me to you!”, so I grabbed it and went quickly home before someone that knew it has some value appeared.
It looks gorgeous on my veranda. :)
