Pulau Pangkor is an island off the coast of Perak in north-west peninsular Malaysia, reached by ferry from Lumut (a small coastal town that links to Ipoh, or from Sitiawan). It is heavily promoted as a low-key tourist destination by the Malaysian government, but fishing and fish products remain major industries. The name Pangkor actually originates from the Thai word 'Pang Ko' meaning 'Beautiful Island'

Apart from Aidilfitri, the festival most grandly celebrated by Muslims all over the world is Aidiladha. In Malaysia, it is more commonly known as Hari Raya Korban or Hari Raya Haji. Celebrated about two months after Aidilfitri, on the 10th day of Zulhijah, the 12th month of the Muslim calendar, it marks the end of the haj pilgrimage period (about two weeks) hence the name Hari Raya Haji (festival of the pilgrimage).
