Breaking the Ice on Horizon Fever

I was desperate for many months. I wrote many articles, submitted for many rumbles, trying to save up piggies for that ONE camera. And now IT'S FINALLY MINE! And THIS is the story of our first time together.

This weekend I took my Horizon Perfekt on our first trip together with my girlfriend! We went to a lighthouse on the southwest corner of the island (Puerto Rico). On our drive we saw some pretty sweet landscapes in which we seemed obligated to pull over and take a few shots with our Ektachrome GX film.

Once we were close we stopped by a friend’s house who was visiting from New York and chatted up for a while and ate some delicious frituras. Then we were finally on our way to our destination. The road as all muddy but the sights were impressive. We got down and walked a long way to the top of the hill where the lighthouse was and the picture taking action began! We spent hours admiring the beautiful shores and ocean waves hit the sand.

After we had our share of Kodak moments, we walked down the hill and stopped at the lighthouse’s famous beach: Playa Sucia. White sandy shores, calm waves, and beautiful sights. It was the perfect weekend getaway.

My first time with my Horizon Perfekt couldn’t have been any better. Now I just need to find a name for it… I’m thinking something Russian… What do you guys think?

Your first shots with Horizon are absolutely breathtaking!!! For the landscape of course, but also the colors are so vivid (never tried this Kodak E GX film...) and you managed the exposures perfectly (what settings did you try out?)
Can't wait to see your next Horizon pictures :))

@irina HAHA!
@vicuna thanks! =D i was very anxious about shooting that spot but i had been saving it for the Perfekt. As for the settings, I pretty much just went along with what you told me about the sunny f.16 rule, and it seems to have worked pretty nicely. Since the film was 100 iso I pretty much stayed within 1/125 shutter speed, and then the aperture i changed between f.16, 11 and 8. and that was pretty much it =)
@azzzy thank you! I'll let you know when more come our way! =D

I totally understand your feelings - I was saving up for my horizon too, writing articles like crazy and stuff ^^
in fact I wanted to pay my horizon just with piggies but then I was lucky to grab one of those rare 35% vouchers over at lomographys facebook and I ordered it..Had to pay 75€ but well this is still good and now my baby is here and cant be really tested cause here in germany there arent such beautiful places during this time of the year...fingers crossed for some last sunny days :)

Have fun with your baby <3

@spoeker haha! i did the same thing! I had a LOT of piggies and i was intentioned to buy it all with piggies, but the day came when the Lomography FB page hit 150k and they threw the 35% voucher and I grabbed it =D it ended up costing me $38 with $15 of shipping. I'm sure if you drive around you can find some interesting shots! It doesn't have to be all bright and sunny for beautiful shots! =)

Lovely shots, beautiful light. like the first one especially, the way there's more curve at the bottom of the frame than at the top. They're great cameras and worth saving up for!!
