I realize a good deal of these pictures are either crooked or slanted but then again, that didn't stop Winogrand. Ok, I should just take the time to frame my shots and stop making up excuses.

  • Venetian Adventures Part 3: Venetian Life.

    shared by meitads on 2016-02-03

A good part of the weekend consisted of getting lost in Venezia's maze of sepia alleyways, and in that process discovering how Venetians conduct their daily activities. One thing that I never have thought before was how multicultural the city is; within the short trip I met residents coming from various parts of Italy, the UK, Ireland, Mongolia, America, Bangladesh, Poland, and Costa Rica; all embracing the simple lifestyle of the beautiful city.

  • Going Under (Svalbard #11)

    shared by wil6ka on 2016-01-29

It might have been the hardest photographic conditions ever in the polar station of Ny Ålesund. Because of the polar night in November, there was only glimpses of light around noon, Other than that only darkness and the lights of the buildings in the worlds northermost settlement. I was taking my free saturday to walk around and to take shots. As i was limited to only little weight on my trip, I had to decide which cameras i can take. For panoramics I decided for the XPAN and the very wide wide wide 30mm lens. Because I knew I had to expose the hell out of the frame, with swing lenses you just have a limit on exposure times. For the landscape picture I might have exposed the picture up to 4 minutes. But it was cold and windy and did I mention cold? So I had set the distance, the frame and aperture in darkness. I used a gorillapod with a release cable and because of the low level and the darkness I had to assume and guess the distance to the objects. I was a game of trial and error. I learned a lot. I am grateful!

Together with my wife, I was in Russia visiting her family and friends. One day when we visited her family I ran out of films. So I asked my mother-in-law if she accidentially still has some left because she also still shoots film. She gave me a few and among them was also this one. It seems like to have been already exposed once by my father-in-law on a journey long time ago. What happened now is, without knowing that it was exposed already, I put it in my old LOMO Lubitel because I wanted to try a 35mm film in this medium format camera. The results are here. Somtimes there are no double exposuresat all, so only the journey of my father-in-law or only my shots (even some doubleexposures) or there are nice doubles of two different exposures from approx. 20 years ago and recently in 2015. For me a quite interesting, unexpected surprise. But I really like it.

An accidental triple where I snapped the swan by the river in Cambridge before flicking the MX button and shooting a random 'STOP' sign on the road. Then I completely forgot that it was already a double and took my LC-A on holiday to St Ives, Cornwall where I added a seagull at the bottom third time around. My memory ain't what it used to be but then sometimes I guess that's not such a bad thing.
