For the Love of Long Exposures

4

Dear World,
SLOW DOWN.
Fast: Downloads, cars, flashes, microwave, drive-thru, movies
Slow: Baking cookies, books, walks, “B” setting, turtles, growing flowers
Fast is good, but slow can be satisfying. I think we all tend to neglect the “b” setting on our cameras, but hey, you should flick the switch, take a chill pill and let things happen.
Yes we all crave sharp images, flashes, bright sunlight, but just because the sun goes down and the battery on your flash may be dead DOESN’T mean you have to stop shooting. All you need is a still subject, a steady hand, and the “b” mode. Trust me, it’s good fun. Just set your camera down aimed at your subject, focus, and fire away. If you don’t have an automatic light meter, its okay, just use your judgement. Or don’t judge at all. The freedom of controlling the shutter is fantastic, you become more in tune with your surroundings, you focus more on your subject, you can get lost in thought while keeping the shutter open for minutes. You can expand your mind, become more patient, improve your night vision! But I digress.
The message of this blog: SLOW THE FUCK DOWN.
