Well, this is a golden opportunity to tell the story of my first step in Lomoworld. I see it as a beginning of a wonderful thing, and as a great, almost total, miss of an amazing Lomographic opportunity. So let me tell you how it was.
My girl got the beautiful Diana Glow just about two weeks before we went on a vacation to travel in Japan. We both had no idea what was it all about (the camera, that is) except that it looked really cool and that it was analogue, which is also pretty cool.
So we packed the camera and some rolls of film. 4 rolls. 4. I can just not believe it now when I think about it. 4 rolls!! I can only say in my defense that I had no idea.
We spent 6 weeks in Japan, where we bought another 2 rolls, just two days before we left. On the way back we had a two days stop in Beijing, China, where I finished those rolls.
Only after coming back to Amsterdam we got the rolls developed and realized what did we have in our hands all that time. We got to see the Diana magic for the first time, and you all know this moment, when you pick up your first rolls (or, your first successful rolls) and you see the wonder you have created yourself, with your heaven-sent device. I wanted to kill myself. On my last visit to Israel, which was 10 days long, I burnt about 15 rolls (just because I did not have any more). 4 rolls?? In Japan? In 6 weeks in the most amazing places?
The only conclusion I come to is that we will just have to visit Japan again.
So after that long story, here is the photo that was my first best photo, taken in Beijing, China, from the first crop from the Diana:
Remember: there is nothing like to too much film!
Feel free to check out the rest of the (tiny) albums from Japan and China:
