So my interest on DSLR slowly fade away and I started to forget about Photoshop.

When people are chasing for the latest gadgets in town, when DSLR is the new black and it is a must-have by everyone, when people think that camera loaded with film is so yesterday. I choose to not go with the flow

I used to be among those who go with the flow, always up-to-date and having at least one of the latest things in town. But that has stopped when the brother introduced to me, lomography. Being a so-called hi-tech person, of course my reaction was negative. I was like, why choose to trouble yourself looking for the films and looking for a place to develop it just to get some effect on the pictures while Photoshop can do the job. In this high-tech world, that is just lame. But despite having all sort of negative thought, I invested some money for Smena 8M and got a bag full of expired film from my uncle who is a photographer and later my aunt gave me her unused Yashica FX-3 2000. Suddenly, the brother and I, we have two analogue cameras. So that’s how it started.

And today, I have five cameras; Smena 8M, Yashica, LC-A, Fisheye 2 and Superheadz UWS, and I still have a lot more on the wish list.

I’m lucky to have a brother who shares the same interest. So we share all the expenses. I do get a lot of criticism for having lot of cameras, about how I ‘wasted’ my money for this hobby but yeah, ignorance is bliss. And when people ask when the hobby will stop, I would say I don’t know, maybe when I have tried all cameras with all types of films which I think will take forever. I smile proudly when they ask, “you photoshopped this? How did you edit this?” etc. The thing with lomography is every roll and every type is a new experiment and experience. Thus, there’s no end to it. And guess what, more and more people are going for analogue lately. The feature is analogue, an irony I must say. But that’s how life works.

haha. true. it's our money but the thing with our money is,it cant shut people's mouth from saying that kind of thing and block their mind from thinking negatively. that's why ignorance is bliss.

for me, lomography is the most unique way to treasure a memory :) and it's not bout photography skills and what-not, it's more about having fun, making mistakes and let loose. no one will actually mad at you when you get blur pic. it's the effect!haha.

Being a graphic designer I am well versed with Photoshop knowledge and for many years dabbled with my Digital Rebel XT creating effects/tweaks using my good friend Photoshop. But yeah something changed in me, I'm not completely dissing my digital SLR as there are times when its nice to have, but I've definitely fallen in love with film all over again. I find the whole experience so gratifying, not knowing how your pictures will turn out. Its a waiting game filled with surprises both good and not so good.

Another thing I've noticed, is unlike with digital cameras, I am much more aware of what I am shooting. I know I have a set amount of shots, and while I do try and stick to the rules of Lomo, I am still able to pull amazing images out of 12 or 36 shots. Whereas with my digital camera I would shoot hundreds of images only to use a handful. It makes one a better photographer I think when you don't have a virtually unlimited amount of pictures to take. One begins to look closer and deeper at their subjects.

Yeah, okay, I'll get off my soap-box now. Go Lomo!

    mikeman85,
Digicam still comes in handy at time. Not completely abandoning it, but it's been a while since the last time i used it. =)

"...Whereas with my digital camera I would shoot hundreds of images only to use a handful. It makes one a better photographer I think when you don't have a virtually unlimited amount of pictures to take. One begins to look closer and deeper at their subjects." - Me like this.
Your words are exactly true. With lomo,I learn a lot about photography. Before that,I barely know anything except for the basic functions on the camera because I know, I can take thousand of pictures and choose the nice one to publish or edit the not-so-nice one to nice with photoshop, photoscape, lightroom or picasa etc...
