Okay, I admit it. I may have a problem. I may be addicted to cameras.

The thought that I may have some sort of camera addiction crossed my mind today as I was scanning some freshly developed 120 film shot using my Holga. The Holga for me was surely my “gateway camera” into the plastic camera world. It was giving to me as a birthday gift from my lovely girlfriend, and after one brief altercation in which I, having never loaded medium format film, unknowingly killed a fresh roll of Kodak TMAX film. Not to worry, Holga and I worked things out and quickly became best friends. Holga will always have a special place in my heart.
But since then, my collection of cameras has grown. Lets see, in order of when I obtained them I own a 35mm Canon EOS Rebel XS, Canon Digital Rebel XT, my beloved Holga, the ever fun Fish Eye 2, the super Supersampler, an amazingly sweet vintage Kodak Brownie Bull’s-Eye, an Ultronic Panoramic point and shoot, a Bell+Howell point and shoot and a curious navy blue camera with a yellow shield on the front bearing the words Detective Academy (obviously a kids toy, the last three cameras I might add I scavenged from a Goodwill for a total of about 8 bucks.) and last but not least a newly acquired Diana F+ whom I’ve yet to finish a roll with yet.
Now, surely there are collectors out there who could put my collection to shame, but I must say I am rather proud and freaked out by my obvious obsession. Surely one doesn’t really “need” all these cameras to take pictures and to be quite honest with you there are still more cameras that I ever so want. Yes, I’m looking at you Lomo Lubitel 166+, and you Lomography Sprocket Rocket and you too LOMO LC-A+, and you Fuji Natura Classica. Sigh….See what I mean? I’m addicted to cameras, I’m obsessed with cameras. Maybe I just love cameras. That’s it I love cameras. I love taking pictures. I love photography.
I’m sure I’ll eventually settle on a few favorites that I’ll keep in a standard rotation of use (I already have one, my Holga.), but until then I’m more than happy to satisfy my appetite for freezing awesome moments on film by experimenting with as many cameras as possible.
I am no longer ashamed anymore…phew…felt good to finally get that off my chest. Until next time, keep shooting.
PS. I love love love cameras.
