revolog films

revolog is a company based in Vienna, Austria that produces special effect films for analogue photography. There are nine different effect films, that are all based on a 200iso color negative film with 12 exposures. That is a bit of the downside that you only have 12 exposures with every film, but you can double it e.g. with your Diana Mini. The good thing is, that you can bring the film in any lab to get them developed.
I tested the films in Split, Croatia, so it was brighter than I am used to and I shot them with my LC-A+.

The first film is Rasp a film with fine color lines over the photos. I really like the lines and their form. It adds a lot to the photo.

The revolog 460nm has color changes “from blue/violet to yellow/green” as it was said on the homepage. That film did not turn out that well. Maybe I simply did not scan it right, but the results are too un-photo for me, too grainy, too much color. I should give that one a second try and try to scan it differently.

Tesla 2 is a film with red flashes. A very nice effect e.g. for landscapes, portraits and everything technic related.

My favorite film is Kolor , a film with different color changes and a quite antique look (at least coming back from my lab)… Very nice, also that the color changes are not so intense.

Revolog 600nm is also in my favs. It has small color changes that give the photos also an old look – very nice! That film was in my LC-A+ on my way back from Split via Hannover, Germany to Utrecht, the Netherlands.

I hope you all saw Austin Powers and Dr. Evil mentioning the “laser”?! :D Lazer is the name of the film that gives blue and green lines on your photos.

Tesla 1 creates blue flashes on your photos. I tried that one also during low light conditions. Nice!

You want green dots on your photos? So you need the film called Volvox

By using the Texture film you will have lots of bubbles on your photos that give a texture. Also very nice.

You can find revolog also on facebook and on twitter

ich finde die filme total interessant, es ist nur schade, dass die filme so teuer sind und das porto nach deutschland so hoch ist :(

@farbenmann - suggest it to them... maybe they also make 120 films soon?!
@trashpilotin ja... das porto ist drastisch gestiegen, weil die österreichische post wohl ein monopol hat und einfach mal die preise erhöht hat.... sammelbestellung mit mengenrabatt? ist alles handarbeit...

Although the rasp one looks quite good I have to admit that I don't really like the idea of them. To me the best part of lomography is seeing different effects and trying to figure out how they were done and how you could try it if you wanted to. To find out that the effects were premade on the film, not in a fun lab rat experiment seems disappointing to me. I think you make such amazing photos without this special film anyway...

must confess that I don't like these pre-made effect too much, except for the textures one that is very nice, obviously this aint nothing to do with your pictures that are always so good! :)

Interesting films... Could you talk them into resurrecting AerochromeIII in 35mm and 120??

I think I have to agree with Superlighter - most of them are not for me. But I might try the last 3 on the list, especially Texture and Tesla. Thanks for the very complete review :)

I like volvox but its expensive for a 12 exp. I hope Lomo can come up with similar effects. For the meantime, we can try first the different tipsters shared here. =)

wow, I have heard about the film before and was surprised with the price. Its a lil bit expensive. I rather buy an IR colour film rather than revolog. (economy limits my passion . Damn! ) I should buy one day to try it . I love the polka dot revolog film !

Thank you so much for reviewing these films! I've been really hesitant to try them, I think I could pass on most of them, but I would really love a few rolls of Kolor! sells them for $12 a roll, and with 12 shots per roll that winds up being a dollar a shot. For as much as I'd love a few rolls, you have to really want the shot to make it worthwhile. Great reviews as always!

I've used (and am using) some Revolog fim. Although I love the effects, and have had some really good results, I almost feel like it's cheating. I love being able to apply my own effects through experimentation. However, a great photo is a great photo, and the ones you have posted for this article are all great.
