Wanderlust

Recently, Lomography San Francisco employees Ashley and Katie took a birthday road trip from San Francisco to Reno, Nevada. The drive proved to be quite an adventure, and they’ve got the photos to prove it. Ashley’s Lomo Location will be up in the next day or two, so keep an eye out for it!

Looking through their photos has gotten me pumped up to hit the road and have an adventure for myself. Incidentally, Nicolas and I have a great LA getaway planned for next weekend with some friends. We’ll hit Venice Beach, the Santa Monica Pier, the LACMA, the Cabazon Dinosaurs, Salvation Mountain… Any other suggestions?

Los Angeles has a very special place in my heart; It’s where I shot my very first roll of film on the Holga, my first lo-fi camera and the object that led me to Lomography. 5 years later, I’ll revisit some of those places. With new cameras, new friends and a new perspective, will I photograph the familiar sights in the same way? I wonder.

There’s just something about the adventure of hitting the open road, of taking a weekend away with your friends. Gas station snack stops, roadside attractions, singing songs in the car like nobody else can hear you (we hope they can’t)… Life’s an adventure. There’s really no telling where you’ll end up, what you’ll see, who you’ll meet. You’re guaranteed a good time when you get out and see the world.

Although this isn’t analogue, here’s a visual reference for what I want my summer to look like:

The Naked & Famous - Young Blood

So, what about you? Are you feeling the itch to get up and go, too? Where will you go this summer? What will you do? Enjoy this time off, because time’s flying and you’ll be back to the grind before you know it. Take a day or two to get out, to get up and go. Take a thousand, million photographs of your adventures as you travel the world, or just drive around your city. Document these memories, these times. Share everything.

We want to see the world through your eyes, to live vicariously through your photographs. I’m looking forward to it!
