Diana Mini versus La Sardina: Gift Help needed

I want to get my wife hooked on the analogue/lomography virus as well! So I need some help which camera to get her!

So for Christmas and/or Sinterklaas (for those unfamiliar with this Dutch holiday, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinterklaas or the infinitely funnier David Sedaris: [Video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCUHTDrca4shttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCUHTDrca4s] I want to give my wife one of the awesome lomography cameras.

I was thinking of the Diana Mini White: http://shop.lomography.com/cameras/diana-f-cameras/diana-mini-cameras/diana-mini-flash-package-white
Or the La Sardina El Capitan: http://shop.lomography.com/cameras/la-sardina-cameras/la-sardina-camera-bundles/la-sardina-el-capitan-film

Why these two? Well, there are both easy, light and easy to get a hang of.
Now the advantage of the Diana Mini would be the size.. Also there’s the possibility to do half frames. And I love her bigger sister. So I was wondering can you use the accessories of the Diana F+ for the Diana Mini?
The advantage of the La Sardina El Capitan is that it is a very different camera from the ones I already have (Diana F+, Fisheye2, Spinner 360, Sprocket Rocket, Holga mini, Canon Eos 50E, Fujifilm Instax210 and some digital cameras). It doesn’t do half frames, but it can do multiple exposures and role the film back. Also I know she finds it really cute..

So which camera to choose? Any advice is more than welcome!!

hi there! i do have diana mini, but just yesterday i seriously asked myself getting la sardina. i think that first it would be great to have diana mini and then la sardina. but i found la sardina very interesting. diana mini is quite interesting too, it has a lot of possibilities, as you mention above, but the nice thing, and i dar to say the graet advntage od diana mini is that nice flash that you can se in almost every camera. (actually that why i boght it). but its all au to you and your likes and dislikes.. :)

I'd say review the features of these and perhaps a couple of other cameras to see what she likes. Then buy that for her.

Thank you both for the replies!
I think I have decided to go with the La Sardina El Capitan, because it seems to be a slightly more forgiving first time camera than the Diana Mini. Although I love the split screen option on the Diana, I think the La Sardina is a better choice right now. I got the impression from browsing around the site that it is just an easy, fun camera to shoot with.
Maybe I will get myself a Diana Mini then? ;)

I have both and like the Diana Mini better, although the La Sardina is a little easier to use. I like being able to shoot half frames and the square format pictures. I think they are a little more unique. Just my humble opinion...

I almost forgot to mention - you cannot use the F+ accessories on the mini. That might be one reason to go with the Sardina.

@trw I agree with you on the half format and the square format creating a more unique experience. I have been leaning more towards the La Sardina simply because I would like to get her started on a slightly easier camera (she is very much the point and shoot digital sort of person, she gives me the deer in the headlights look when I mention manual focus or N/B setting). I am a little disappointed the accessories don't translate from the F+ to the mini.. But, food for thought, thanks for the comments!
