  • Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex

    shared by gepo1303 on 2014-07-13

The Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex (German Zeche Zollverein) is a large former industrial site in the city of Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It has been inscribed into the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites since December 14, 2001 and is one of the anchor points of the European Route of Industrial Heritage. The first coal mine on the premises was founded in 1847, mining activities took place from 1851 until December 23, 1986. For decades starting in the late 1950s, the two parts of the site, Zollverein Coal Mine and Zollverein Coking Plant (erected 1957−1961, closed on June 30, 1993), ranked among the largest of their kinds in Europe. Shaft 12, built in Bauhaus style, was opened in 1932 and is considered an architectural and technical masterpiece, earning it a reputation as the “most beautiful coal mine in the world”

  • June 2012: Polaroid emulsion lift combined with…

    shared by laurasulilly on 2012-07-14

My new Polaroid SX-70 arrived today and it came with all kinds of fancy accessoires like a close up lens and cable release. Last night, I read about the transparencies technique, so first thing I did after unpacking was to take a test shot, peel off the transparent layer and combine it with an old Polaroid emulsion lift: bottom is brighton beach, top is flower pedals. I like how the flower pedals seem to grow out of the sky, but I know that there's a long way to go till I'll be able to get really satisfying Polaroid doubles- but hey, it's my first try.... Has been featured on The Impossible Project's official Facebook Page

Gujuli is a really small village near Vitoria (30 km), in the north of Spain. To get there you follow a serpentine road though all kinds of green valleys. The village is lost between mountains and you listen to a great cascade somewhere near. If you follow the sound of the water you'll find a 100 meters cascade that falls in a canyon of great beuty. Everything is peaceful there, surrounded by mountains, sheeps and green forests. Just 100 mts from the cascade, you can rent a house and keep quiet listening to the sounds of nature. No cars, no crowd... just you, the water, green field and your lomo cameras. The best time of the year to go there is spring (when the green is intense) or in autumm to have all kinds of oranges and yellows
