What's in a name...

I am always interested in how people have come to choose their name for their lomo ID. For me it is quite simple, when I first came to Lomography some years ago to upload some photos, I didn’t really know much about it, so I chose the only name I had ever used online jblaze823. I created this name based on the first ever email account I had when I was 15 years old, but not over 15 years later I still have it. To me, this name is outdated and I have outgrown it, but in reality it is what identifies me in this world of Lomography, so I can’t escape it and this is not a bad thing. So that is my Lomo-name story, feel free to add your story, because likely it will be an interesting one.

Indeed, I asked some time ago in the shoutbox about the origins of everyones lomo-name...
    Well, here's my story:
Back in 2003, I made a fantastic 1 month travel with my brother, his wife and some friends through Peru and Bolivia. Very quickly, during the travel, we had some fun by giving ourself some "travel-nicknames". I didn't find any nickname until we came to the "canyon de Colca" near of Arequipa in Peru. There, in a restaurant, the waitress was laughing with us and we told her about the nicknames stuff. she laughed about it and told me that i looked like a Vicuña, tall and elegant... That was a nice compliment for me and so I had this name during the whole travel. After returning back, I made a movie (filmed with digital camera, wasn't a lomographer at the time) of this travel and called it "El viaje de la Vicuña"... And after that, this nickname Vicuña was there, I used it for different purposes, and naturally, when I had to choose a lomographic name, vicuna was the only one I wanted! It's always a great souvenir from this fantastic trip we had over there...

That's a great story behind your name vicuna, a real traveler story. It seems every time I see some new photos from you it is in a new and exotic place, so it makes perfect sense that you got your name while out traveling. Thanks for reading and adding to my blog and keep taking beautiful photos.

My internet name "Rav" is the way I decided to shorten the word "revontulet" which is the Fin word for the northern lights. I didn't want to shorten it to "Rev" because people might think I was a priest. lol. As for the "bunneh" part... that should be clear as it means bunny since a white rabbit is my avatar. :3

That's great, thanks for your story, I have seen your name around the site and have always wondered, my guess was your first name was rav and your last name was bunneh, haha, I guess I was way off, haha

my lomoname is ecchymoses, it means bruises in French. I'm pale skinned and I bruise easily. my friends shorten it to ecchy. I have used it for years, and I can't remember who gave it to me (nothing interesting I fear)

thanks katzpe (Katherine), like I told ecchymoses, the most heartfelt and special nicknames come from those that are closest to us, so it is perfect that you chose to use the name your cousin has given you. thanks for your story
