The Cornish abroad stand a slightly better chance of expressing the difference in our cultural qualities; The Grass Farms of Nebraska to the south Australian York Peninsular and Mexico, South Africa and even the Carribean Pattie have been touched in some way by the Cornishman Abroad, as pirates, Miners or hapless henchmen in the payroll of the English shilling their influence continues to permeate those imperial corporations of the non-individual. The true Cornishman excells in the opposite of logic and although logic is employed to construct or fabricate, it is English authorities insistance that prior to construction, permission must be sought, plans must be made and coinventions must be observed, hence the death of creativity at the hands of our oppressors. Newton Penpraze went to Ireland as a young man and taught at the Belfast College of Art (try counting the amount of Cornish Art Lecturers in Cornwall on one or two fingers) Where he settled opposite the BOHEESHANE BAY in a house called BENDHU, which he built, I would say that in Cornish and possibly Irish the name Bendhu is roughly Dark Headland or Black Stone Cliff. .....and continued building. Bendhu was began in 1936 but was still being lavished with an owners love of creation in 1952 when NEWTON PENPRAZE retired from his lecturing duties and gave even more of his time to this ever increasing project of self expression, known locally as an on-going, never quite finished thing-this was accepted by the populace but received numerous problems from the building authorities, the same incivil serviles that, after Newton Penprazes death announced how woinderful the creation was as a tourist feature, as a part of the rich heritage and local culture.
