Growing Old on an Island

Growing Old on an Island

in view of the long history of mining and quarrying in cornwall it is not surprising that the country of cornwall should have been a focus of interest for geological study from the time pioneers to present day adventurers. In the eighteeth centurty men such as Rashliegh and Pryce collected and classified the minerals of the district, specimens of which were eagerly sought by a growing number of largely amateur collectors. Geology as a subject in its own right also evolved in the eighteenth century and the formation of the royal geological society of cornwall in 1814 demonstrates the local degree of interest.
