A TRAGIC MISTAKE by Jonathan Polkest

A TRAGIC MISTAKE by Jonathan Polkest

William S Burroughs. was a highly controversial writer and poet and a long time friend of Kerouac, A world traveller, he drifted throughout his life from St Louis to New York and Texas and then later to South America, North Africa and France. Bisexual, addicted to certain narcotics and to gun ownership he married Joan Vollmerin 1957 but shot and killed her five years later in a highly publicised stunt whilst entertaining friends with drinks, Joan put a glass of gin on her head and teased Burroughs to take a pot shot. Burroughs would then write his work; Junky, Nova Express, and The Soft Machine along with his landmark The Naked Lunch, which Kerouac typed up on his own adler altona typewriter in Tangiers. Most sources confirm the stunt as a tragic mistake gone wrong.
