Jack Kerouac was a type of fiction writer, a mythographer, this is perhaps a difficult concept to equate because his work was firmly rooted in his reality, his novels and poems are based upon real people, real places real events tooKerouac aleays insisted that he was not writing his memiors but his legend, told in a style that you might tell your life story to very close friends, boring stretches were compressed, embarrassments glossed over and exciting parts elevated to epic proportions. Sometimes events were intentionally changed to avoid libel suits or protect reutations. On the Road for example, doesnt give the impression that Ginsberg was homosexual, details were removed from the manuscript
