Montage / Eugenio Barba / Jonathan Polkest
By means of the Montage of rhythm in fact one aims at the very principle of motion at tensions, at the diaectic process of nature or thought.Or better, at "the thought which penetrates matter"(cf Energy). EISENSTEIN's comments on El Greco, are particularly important with respect to montage because they demonstrate how montage is actually the construction of meaning. Eisenstein shows how El Greco, assembling the individual parts of his paintings (Eisenstein calls them Frames), succeeds not in representing ecstatic characters but rather in creating an ecstatic construction of the paintings, forcing the observers eye, even his body, to follow the route designed by the creator.
