Montage / Eugenio Barba / Jonathan Polkest
From afar, a city is a city and a landscape is a ;andscape, (?) E.B.*,but little by little, as one approaches, there appear houses, trees, tiles, leaves, ants, ants legs ad infinitum.(=detail? ed) The film director ROBERT BRESSON quotes these words written by Pascal and deduces from them that in order to compose one must know how to see the reality which sorrounds us and subdivide it into its constituent parts. One must know how to isolate these parts, to make them insependent in order to give them a new dependence. A performance is born out of a specific and dramatic relationship between elements and details which considered in isolation, are neither dramatic nor appear to have anything in common. The concept of Montage does not only imply a composition of words, images, or relationships. Above all, it implies the montage of rhythm but not in order to represent or to reproduce the movement.
