Textiles adaptation - Jonathan Polkest
My technical and conceptual direction for exploring these pliable materials as surface and form are not as straightforward as would appear, the notion of decoration has always been a question in my practise, what is decoration, is wallpaper art etc but my practice lead me in this respect and I became explorative in embellishment,transforming the the surfaces with something alternative or given emphasis to the otherness of conventional materials and processes on fabric, panels (mdf, hardwood), paper, felt . photographs, video tape, hand woven or hand printed experiments. Stitching, beading, layering and flocking, staining, wax resist, as well as paint which formed the other half of my experimental work.
