Textiles adaptation - Jonathan Polkest
Beginning with the pliant nature of linear textile elements I focussed on constructing forms in two dimensional idioms but with the added textile surfecants The notion of crafting is enhanced by the ancient elements in textiles as well as the more machine orientated contemporary processes, theres no contradiction as these newer materials excell in their often awkward manifestation, generally I found them interesting ways forward to more basic approaches, employing both single and multiple elements, structuring techniques such as semi-rigid armatures and interlacings, lashing, plaiting, netting, "skinning"surfaces, crochet and knitting. Concepts of translucency, flexibility, solidity, multiples, transformation, and spatial dynamics - through installed work as well as studio practice.
