Textiles adaptation - Jonathan Polkest
Media that uses fibre including three principle textile processes could be described as fibre with a three dimensional emphasis, a modelled sculptural approach, also the Printed textile or incorporating multiple mark making or patterned textile and thirdly a woven approach, including combining fibres to create particular outcomes in fibre such as twining, plaiting, indigo dying, hand printing and loom weaving. This is my foray into a territory that lent itself to my expression. I have painted for a long time in a comparitively figurative technique, I got involved in experimental photographic techniques whilst working on my M.A.Fine Art programme and it stays with me as a source of ideas, theres a lot of ideas I have yet to realise through photography but I wanted to focus my deliberations on some of the Textiles approaches that have now almost subsumed my painting although its obviously paint which forms such an essential element in my work.
