Snap the precious moment with film camera is streaming from my mom's blood to me
Meet my mom, she is recently retire from her job after working as a civil servant since 80s until 2013. Before digital era, she loves to taking photo with film camera.
When I was a child my family were moving from our hometown Bandung, Indonesia to Ujung Pandang (now Makassar), Sulawesi Selatan (South Celebes). When Sunday is coming my dad always take us to the vacation places. Mostly beach and my mom never forget to snap me, my sister and our friend with fuji pocket camera loaded with fuji film.
After the film is fully loaded, she always “afdruk” (process) the film at Fuji Image Plaza. And when the photo has printed at 3R or 4R size, me and my sister always fight to see the 36 photo which has put into an album which provide by Fuji Image Plaza.
Saw her loaded the film into her fuji pocket camera and snap me at my happiest childhood moment automatically made me love film camera. Maybe that’s why I always do the same with my lomography camera and Schmidt 135mm camera, point and shoot camera made in Germany.
My mom not really understand about photography technique but one thing that I learn from her after seeing again her old photo album : taste of aesthetic.
Taste of aesthetic of every individual might be different but one thing for sure we love the beauty. And so is my mom, when I saw my old childhood photo I can feel the happiness that the photo bring, the same feel also told by my friend who I tag the photo at facebook. All of them didn’t have the childhood documentation at that time because their parent not as crazy as my mom who ask me and my friend to take a photo when parent meeting at school time is coming.
At that time I always embarassed because I felt like I’m a mommy boy hahaha but all of my school friend love to photographed by my mom. She was famous as a photographer mom
Time goes by and when the digital era killed 90 % of analogue photography business in Indonesia, my mom stop snap with her film camera.
I use her last pocket camera, Yashica ESZ Kyocera, but when I want to use it for the second time it totally off eventhough I have loaded a new battery on it. I want to repair it at the most famous analogue camera repair man in my hometown but I waste my money most for scan roll and new film.
Me and my mom almost fight everyday because I waste a lot of money for analogue photography meanwhile I’m still jobless. When she did umroh I challenge her to snap with my Holga 135BC loaded with precious Lomograohy X Tungsten film, the most expensive film that I ever bought . But she forgot my camera at the bus when she was did umroh in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. So, she can’t see how beautiful is the result of cross processing using Holga & Lomography X Tungsten. I have show her my cross process photo with Horizon Perfekt loaded with Kodak EVS, but seems she didn’t interesting, instead she angry at me because many of my photo are blur or overexposure =p I Love You, Mamah.
