The lost art of patience.

It is a world where we want everything right now, but some things make us wait.

This digital age has brought us so much instant gratification. How bad can it be, stuck on slow internet connection and having to wait that half a minute for a picture to come through?! I feel we’ve lost the sweet satisfaction that comes with great anticipation. Some of the things I Love the most about Analogue photography is the unknown, the mystery and the excitement of getting a roll developed. Wondering if I’d captured that moment that i thought I did, seeing exactly where the colours will shift to on a roll of Xpro – you all understand.
Truth is, I both love and hate having to wait to see whats on the film. But I do believe that Patience is a Virtue! It’s a dying art that is good for us to nurture.

There are still some things in this life that make us wait. My wife and I are blessed with one of those right now, the expected arrival of our first child. It is very exciting, and there sure isn’t anything you can do other than wait!

So in the spirit of patience and my love of analogue, I saw a photo project opportunity. I have dedicated my lovely original LC-A and a single roll of Ilford 400 to record monthly photos of the progress and arrival of our baby. (just a note, the photos you see here are with another camera)
Yes, it’s sad to only get to take 2 or 3 photos a month with my beloved camera. Yes, it’s scary to think “what if something goes wrong with the film?” “What if they’re all out of focus?!” “What if I make a mistake when I develop it?!”… moments I’d never recapture.

What if it works?….

9 months of anticipation, sweetly revealed as I pull the wet film from the final wash.

Hey world, keep your Digital. these are the moments I live for. Wish me luck, everyone.

Congratulations, you are all in my prayers. Meanwhile, find a R72 filter and some IR films, and wait to see what shines in the colours you can't see. Photos help you wait... then post lots of baby pictures.

This is the best kind of waiting.

To you and your family (those impending and those not), this one's for you. This pic was posted before I read your entry, but it seems appropriate: http://www.lomograph(…)os/12533296

I'm doing a similar thing! Taking analogue photos of my daughter so when she's older she will actually have real pictures to look at. Enjoy the ride. It's a great time!
