My wife named her Eleni. I called her Eleni Porkpie because she was a little chubby. We owned her in the days when we oversaw the Congress of Cats and Rabbits on Midtown Court in Palo Alto, California. Don’t look for any such organization because I just made it up. But we had three rabbits and we had three cats. The oldest of the cats loved the bunnies as her own kittens. And one of our cats loved to jump into Eleni’s cage just to sit with her.
It was a Peaceable Kingdom that Edward Hicks would have admired. (You can look that one up.)
I was working on a huge project about my rabbits. Eleni’s whiteness naturally suggested itself as a photographic subject, but it was so intense! Direct light would wipe out her details! So I tended to wait for her to hop into the shadows where she became a blissful pearl gray.
Once however, she obstinately squatted where light and shadow met. I had no choice but to take the picture just to see what would come of it.
And here you have it.
