Thanks @freckleface It was more by accident than judgement. I printed the pictures out and put them in the bottom of a baking tray, held down with a fridge magnet in each corner. Then froze it overnight. The first one the paper came loose and floated to the surface, rubbish, the second and third ones didn't have enough water so the ice disappeared after hitting with a hammer etc. By now four days had gone by and I had nothing to show for it so I thought sod it I'm going to fill the baking tray right up under loads of water this time.

After I took it out of the freezer, after being in there overnight, the ice was so thick I couldn't see the picture underneath. So I thought I'll try to melt it down a little with some water. as soon as the water hit the ice it started to snap and crack. So I took some photos, then added a little more water, then took some more photos. I rubbed the areas I wanted to bring out more and hey presto there you go. I had to place a leaf at the top because I rubbed to much and you could see the paper coming through, apart from that it looked perfect.

As for the bubbles, I have no idea how that happened but I imagine that the paper wasn't flat to the bottom of the tray and the air was pushed up from the bottom as it froze.

    Thanks
